Writing Services Tips: Assignment Writing

Assignment writing can be somewhat daunting, so Lisa Thomas Writing Services has put together some tips for writing an informative and effective assignment. Writing Services Tips: Assignment Writing Complete a detailed assignment plan to give your writing structure, to ensure you cover everything you want to include in your assignment and to avoid repetition. Do your research before you start writing, and amend the structure of the essay to fit in any new information you may have found from your research. Avoid making the essay personal by using phrases that include ‘I’ and ‘You’…such as “I think that the hypothesis is correct”.   Instead of this try saying, “the results indicate that the hypothesis was correct”. Try not to use bullet points in formal writing, instead use paragrahs to seperate ideas. Wherever possible, back up your arguement with a quote.  but ensure the quote is relevant and actually backs up your arguement, don’t just include it because you know the marker expects to see a certain number of quotes. If you are asked to argue for something, this doesn’t mean you cannot highlight the negatives of too, in fact it is quite the opposite, the marker will want to see that you have taken everything into consideration. Avoid being too wordy, why use 50 words when 10 will do?  It will use up more of your word count (which may make it look like you are waflling) and it’s often the case that people think they sound clever, when actually what they have written is confusing. If you are going to use fancy words to wow your reader…make sure you know what they actually mean.  The same applies to using phrases like “you’ve made your bed now lie in it”…make sure you have the phrase correct before you use it. Make sure you reference your work properly.  Find out what referencing system you should be using and follow the guide to detail where you sourced your information from.
